Yes, its true...Colt and I are going to have a BABY! We are beyond thrilled! This blog is a fun resource for all of our pregnancy info, but will also serve as a memoir for our kid, so he/she can see how much fun we are having waiting for him/her. I will try to include answer to frequently asked questions, but feel free to inquire about anything I may not include. So I suppose I should start at the beginning, and work my way through the last few weeks. Here goes...
Where to begin...I woke up one Saturday in mid-May thinking that I was feeling a little bit weird, so I took one of those PREGNANT/NOT PREGNANT tests, and it was negative. I didn't really think much of it, just thought I might be a little nauseated. The next morning at church I was starting to feel queasy again, but I still didn't think anything of it really. My mom actually asked me if I was pregnant, and I said no, that I had taken a test the day before, and it was negative. She wasn't convinced, and told me to wait a few days and take another test. I kept trying to reassure her that I wasn't but she has always had very weird, spot on intuition with me! On Monday, I went to work, still feeling a tiny bit queasy at moments, but mostly having a really bad "fat-day". Around 3pm I started thinking maybe I should take another test when I got home. After work I was exhausted, so I came straight home and took a nap for about an hour. Colt woke me up around 7:30 to get ready to go out to dinner and a movie...DATE NIGHT! I got up to take a shower, and took a test before I got in, but again, I didn't see anything. I laid it up on the counter and hopped in the shower. When I got out, I grabbed the test to throw it away when I just so happened to take a second glance at it. It was the type of test where there was one line if it was negative, and two lines if it was positive. I thought maybe I saw a VERY, VERY faint second line. I wasn't quite sure what to do, because I always thought it would be cool to tell Colt in some cute way, but at that point, I wasn't even sure I had anything to tell him. I ran into the living room, and said, "Umm, do you see anything on this?" He said he didn't, and then I said, "Look right here. Do you see anything right there?" He said, "Well... maybe." I was so excited, but I didn't want to go nuts because it was still so faint, I couldn't be sure. We went to dinner at Chipotle, and went to see Angels and Demons, which was very hard to sit through because it was so lengthy and boring! We agreed that I would take another test when we got home to see if anything had changed. Around 12:30 we walked in the door, and I ran to the bathroom. Again, another VERY, VERY faint line. We had one of those Pregnant/Not Pregnant tests left, although I was scared to take it because it was the same test that was negative on Saturday morning. I was so excited that I didn't want to ruin it with a negative test. I went for it anyway, and sat there waiting for the little blinking hour glass to give me a life changing answer. Blink...blink...blink...blink... PREGNANT! I think my heart stopped beating for a few seconds. I wanted to scream across the house for Colt to come there, but instead I tried to play it cool. I grabbed both tests, and walked out in the living room. "Colt...where are you?" He walked in the room and said, "Well..." I shook my head and he said, "YEAH?" He ran over and gave me a big hug, and I showed him my tests. I never cry...ever...but I started to tear up, like a girl. :) We were so thrilled. The rest of the night we sat wondering how to tell our parents, and when. We didn't realize it at the time, but we were only a little over 3 weeks pregnant. We found out very early.
We told our parents the next night, and had to come up with some lame excuses as to why we were visiting them on a Monday night with no reason. We went to visit Sharon (Colt's mom) at their house in Temple Terrace, but Buddy (Colt's dad) was still in Ocala, working and getting the house ready for their permanent move down here. Colt couldn't wait to tell them until Buddy got home on Friday, so we told Sharon, on Tuesday, and Buddy on Friday. I met Colt at Sharon's house as soon as I got off of work, and told her I wanted to show her some pictures of Ashlyn (our new niece). We went through all of the pictures, and she was being so sweet, humoring us by looking at all of them with sweet compliments. Toward the end of the album (which was on my computer), she clicked to see the next picture, and she saw a picture of my arm handing Colt something with a curious look on his face. The next picture was him looking at the object (which was a pregnancy test), and the picture following that was him smiling with the object held towards the camera, which was the pregnancy test saying "Pregnant". She was SO excited, and said she had said something to Buddy that day, wondering if thats why we were coming over. We made her promise not to tell Buddy, because Colt was so excited about telling his dad. After Sharon's house we made our way over to my parents house in Clearwater. I called Emilee to make sure she was going to be at their house because I wanted the whole family together, although I didn't tell her that. She said she was, and then said, "You're pregnant aren't you." SHE GUESSED IT! We told my parents we were going to look at cars at a car dealership that was closing down in Clearwater, but we went straight to their house. When we got there, my dad and brother were at the park playing soccer, so only my mom and sister were at the house. I sat down on the couch and my mom said, "So what brings you here on a Monday night?" I just looked over at her and smiled, and she said, "REALLY!!!" Then she gave a little squeal, and said she knew it all along! I can't argue that, she has weird intuition with me! We waited until almost 11pm for my dad and brother to come home from the fields! When my dad, walked in we were so exhausted, I had fallen asleep on the couch. I didn't have anything cute to say since I was so groggy, but thankfully I have a very quick witted husband. Daddy said, "So you didn't buy a car, huh?" Colt said, "No, but its ok, we'll probably have to get a mini-van soon anyway." My dad looked stunned for a second and then broke out into a huge smile and hugged us both. Brian Jr. did the same, as he has been asking for a niece or nephew for a while now. We told Buddy on Friday night. We walked into his parents house, and Colt handed him a "Baby Bargains" book that had been given to us, and a "I Listen to Led Zeppelin With My Daddy" onesie. He was very happy and gave us both hugs.
I don't know if anyone else can relate, but I had always thought about how I would tell my parents, and my in-laws about our first pregnancy, and I always imagined something really special and cute. Once I found out I was pregnant, I totally lost all creativity, and just couldn't wait to tell them. I don't regret the way we told them...thats just us.
So there you have it. Sorry if this was long and monotonous. For future posts I will try to keep myself on a word count. I tend to be somewhat long-winded and very detailed. Anyway, thanks for reading and sharing in our journey to parenthood!
